everywhere & nowhere all at once.
this is what it can feel like here at whp - a collective experience that is informed by all of our willingness to give ourselves over to the now. the april residency is well underway and the residents are responding to their experience of this phenomenon. the show & tell occurred two days into the first week of residency; revealing several through lines in the five artists individual processes which hatched the title for the open house - piece of cake - you get the ghost you want.
j pansa, katie revilla, shainna pan, stephanie rohlfs & danielle shi will present the result(s) of their individual & collective process during their time spent onsite - the open house is sunday april 27th from 3-7pm. let us know if you can make it…
this event requests (without demand) guest contributions… please please please bring a cake
- your favorite to make or from your favorite cake maker. it can be in the spirit of the open house title or just your most cherished variety. have fun. and let us all eat cake together during these horrific times. we look forward to the visual aftermath of a gorgeous cake party.

in the spirit of bending time and space - another whp fellow sea snyder will be spinning records in true lost dog fashion at bartavelle cafe at 6pm that same day april 19th. we will be joining in spirit via their atmospheric river - some sort of time & space connection will be made without a doubt. precarious mag is a collaboration between three whp fellows - aubrey king, madeline hernandez and sea. they have been pulling lovely readings/events together of late - so if the hills feel too far, go to the living room that is bartavelle and enjoy intentional listening. future whp oct 25 resident laura kiernan just might be there to pour you a glass of wine.
the first week of may promises to be a heart warming experience with nancy arms simon and tanya hollis joining together in a whp takeover. we will be celebrating the universal day of collage. existing in a self imposed routine. simply seeing what happens.
may 11-17 four bay area artists who are also parents–working in diverse modes of performance, fiction, and essay will share time and space while at work away from their families. this is very important to the project - supporting artists who are also parents. these writers were brought together by sarah heady & include amy k. bell, emlyn guiney & shawn wen. they will be sharing the house with filmmaker liz roberts who (also a parent!) will be working on a video art piece to be showed at ACRE gallery in chicago this summer titled lost years weigh nothing (midwest junkie) & stay tuned - we may have some sort of film screening at the end of this week.
& in the middle of this writing residency week we will host the reading and book signing for jacqueline suskin’s new book the verse for now. wednesday may 14th at 3pm. please reach out if you would like to attend.
the last two weeks of may will host the filming of maiden lane - a film by ivy anderson and devon angus who wrote the book ALICE and then the screen play for maiden lane. we are so looking forward to this experience. so many lovely folks volunteering their professional expertise, space and time - but dollars are still required - so please consider donating to ivy & devon’s project here. they have an amazing cast of collaborators - so looking forward to their return to winslow. some scenes will be shot here and also in the town of locke.
charlie macquerie’s radio tower is now installed (charlie is also a parent of two young humans) - so the radio club is up next! perhaps an every other month gathering? stay tuned for dates - we are getting those together as i write. to be clear this club is for anyone interested in RADIO as a concept, as a transmitting force, as a broadcasted show schedule, as a map, as a low flying aircraft, call it what you like. if you have curiosity, this club is for you - to teach and be taught. to share and absorb. etc… reach out to charlie if you like - he loves radio.
whp now also has a PODCAST - though podcast might be the wrong word - more like a random snippet pulled from the atmosphere here at winslow. they will vary wildly of course. & you may or may not find them interesting. it is just another way to archive the hard to explain-ness of it all.
as mentioned previously - john davis - flaneur extraordinaire - is now afoot here full time at whp. working diligently on being present and bringing the barn as an AV haven to fruition. we are truly blessed to have him onboard. come hangout and write your name in our concrete.
at whp we practice our own developing form of radical hospitality. it takes the village. come visit. we look forward to seeing you here when it works. forward.
